The SPTO celebrates 50 years of female innovation in Spain

There was a time not so long ago in Spain when a woman required her husband's permission to carry out a procedure as simple as opening an account in her name at a bank. Over the last 50 years, the role of women in Spanish society and the Spanish economy has evolved significantly, moving towards a situation of normalized equality.

The field of Industrial Property has not been an exception to the great change experienced, largely thanks to the example of pioneering women who successfully faced countless obstacles and were able to overcome all the barriers that tried to make their work invisible.

As a tribute to all those women who have become benchmarks, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) has held the event 'Registering change. 50 years of female innovation in Spain'. Another of the objectives of this initiative was to analyze the evolution experienced in the field of Industrial Property. SPTO organize a round table for this purpose, entitled 'Dialogue on Industrial Property from a female perspective: inspiring references and persistent obstacles'.

The debate was attended by women who lead business and research projects in leading and strategic sectors such as science and technology: the researcher Ana Martínez, professor at the Margarita Salas Biological Research Center (CSIC), together with the inventors and entrepreneurs Nuria Amigó, CEO and co-founder of Biosfer Teslab; Eva García Ramos, CEO and co-founder of WIVI Vision; and Sara Correyero Plaza, Director of Operations and co-founder of IENAI SPACE.

The Minister of Industry and Tourism Jordi Hereu, was in charge of its opening, giving it the institutional support that such an occasion deserves. The closing was in charge of the Undersecretary of Industry and Tourism, Pablo Garde.

In short, this event, part of the initiative 'Spain in freedom. 50 years' initiative was a magnificent occasion to recognize the legacy of all the women who fought to make their way in the field of Industrial Property, to celebrate the progress achieved so far and to raise awareness of what remains to be done.
