European Patent Forum 2010
On April 28 and 29, the European Patent Forum 2010 was held at the Hotel Eurostars Madrid Tower, at the same time the European Inventor Awards were presented. The event was organized by the European Patent Office, the European Commission and the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, with the collaboration of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office.
The Forum was inaugurated by the Undersecretary of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, and the President of the European Patent Office.
This year, the Forum's theme was: 'Evaluating the Potential of Renewable Energy in Europe' and over the course of two days more than 300 representatives from across Europe, the United States, Korea, China, among others, stressed the important role Patents play when facing the threat of climate change.
On the 29 th, in his Keynote address, the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Commerce emphasized the fundamental role patents play in order for Europe to emerge from the crisis stronger, possessing an economic model based on knowledge, competitiveness and respect for the environment, along with a high level of social and geographic reach.
During the Conference, the initial results were presented from the study 'Patents and Clean Energy' jointly developed by the European Patent Office, the United Nations Environment Program and the International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development. In order to help reduce the gap between politics and reality, the three organizations shared their data and held in-depth exchanges on patents, sustainable development and the technology transfer of clean energies.
