European Patent Forum and European Inventor Awards 2010
The European Patent Forum will reveal the strengths and weaknesses of European Technology in the area of renewable energies, indicating whether or not the European industry is still leading the green boom race, and if public expenditures and support policies are suitable for existing tasks. The forum focuses on sustainable mobility -a phenomenon encompassing a large market- and on the potential for reducing CO2 emissions.
During the Conference, the initial results of the study called Patents and Clean Energies will be presented, which was jointly conducted by the European Patent Office, the United Nations Environment Program and the International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development. In order to help reduce the gap between policy and reality, the three organizations will share their data and provide in depth information on the relationship between patents and the development and transfer of clean energy technologies.
Lecturers from the European Patent Forum 2010 include opinion leaders from the world of politics, business and scientific and civilian communities. Those in attendance will include directors from the energy sector, members of parliament, civil servants from the European Union and Member States and patent professionals, as well as representatives of international organizations.
European Inventor Awards 2010
The European Inventor Awards pay tribute to all of those behind the big ideas that shape our times. Established in 2006 by the European Patent Office (EPO) and the European Commission (EC), the award recognizes outstanding inventors in all fields of technology and in all sectors (public, private, academic, etc.) throughout the world.
Now in its fifth year, the European Inventor Awards Ceremony will simultaneously take place with the European Patent Forum 2010 and will recognize inventors in the categories of:
- Industry
- SME’s / Research
- Non-European countries
- Lifetime achievement awards.
For the first time in the history of the awards, a Spaniard appears on the list of those nominated. His name is Jorge Blasco, a researcher from Valencia, who developed a system that allows for accessing the Internet through the electricity grid; a possibility that could potentially provide access to the Internet to many communities that lack telephone lines.
The awards ceremony will take place on April 28.
