Visits to the SPTO

On September 19, 2024, the Icelandic Intellectual Property Office (ISIPO) made an institutional visit to the headquarters of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. (SPTO). The institutional visit was part of a day dedicated to the promotion of industrial property between ISIPO and the SPTO for exchanging national and international practices in the areas of trademarks, international cooperation, financial management, technological information and information technologies.

The Director of the SPTO, Elisa Rodríguez Ortiz, gave opening speech: an overview of the SPTO and the relevance of industrial property. For her part, the Director General of ISIPO gave an overview of the Icelandic office.

This was followed by presentations and talks in the aforementioned areas in order to provide training for the Icelandic office. In addition, this day enabled a fruitful exchange of practices and experiences between the two offices.

On September 13, some members of the Union de Fabricants (UNIFAB) visited the SPTO headquarters. UNIFAB is a French trademark association whose objectives include the fight against counterfeiting and the promotion and defense of authenticity, creations and innovation.

The purpose of the meeting, after a brief presentation of both institutions, was to exchange views and best practices on actions for the defense of property rights and to prevent infringement of industrial property rights. One of the topics that most interested the visitors was administrative nullity and forfeiture and its practical application in the Office.
