Presentation Fernández - Nóvoa Chair Studies

The Carlos Fernández-Nóvoa Chair of Innovation and Industrial Property is an initiative created for the coordination of the activities that we carry out together with the School of Industrial Organization (EOI) for the training and dissemination of innovation and industrial property. On September 18, two relevant studies were presented within the framework of this Chair.

Esperanza Gallego, Professor of Commercial Law at the University of Alicante, was the author of the study “Patent system and employment generation”. She pointed out that the data show that industrial property is key to economic development and employment generation in such a way that companies that are intensive in industrial property or SMEs that have at least one patent generate more employment, of higher quality and better paid than other companies.

Regulation (EU) 2023/2411 of 18 October 2023 on the protection of geographical indications of artisanal and industrial products has created a new law that grants protection to registered designations of origin. In order to know in depth the different regulations existing in comparative law, it is possible to consult the report: “the regulation of non-agricultural appellations of origin in Spain and in a comparative context”, written by Pilar Montero, Professor of Commercial Law at the University of Alicante.

The event was attended by José Bayón, director of the School of Industrial Organization, who congratulated both authors for these reports, and Elisa Rodríguez, director of the SPTO. In her speech, the director highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Public Administration, the business sector and the academic world to promote the generation of new knowledge in the field of industrial property and to ensure that this knowledge reaches society, boosting economic development.
