World Anti-Counterfeiting Day 2024

Counterfeiting kills the things we love most

This year's World Anti-Counterfeiting Day (WAD) was celebrated on June 12, 2024.

All sectors and products that are backed by a brand are susceptible to being targeted by the mafias responsible for counterfeiting. The sports sector in particular, is one in which its items are always on the lists of the most counterfeited products. In 2024, due to the celebration of important sporting events during the summer (European Football Championship and the Olympic Games in Paris), the campaign to commemorate the WFD focuses on sports and especially on the negative effects that counterfeiting has on the viability of the sports sector.

Sport pursues important values such as self-improvement, respect, tolerance, perseverance, teamwork, effort, fair play, authenticity. The purchase and sale of counterfeit sporting goods is a crime against industrial property that does great harm to sport and to the entities that promote it.

In the following video entitled "Counterfeits put an end to what we like the most the SPTO shows the consequences of counterfeiting in the sports sector:

And the EUIPO, with the same theme, launches the pan-European campaign #playfair2024.
