SPTO Awards for the best invention protectedOn June 14 we celebrated the Second Edition of the Awards for the Best Invention Protected by Industrial Property, organized by the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. (SPTO). These awards are designed to publicly recognize the value of protected Spanish R&D and thus support and encourage research, scientific and technological activity and reward the innovative character of our inventors as the driving force behind the technological development of our society. The ceremony took place in the gardens of the Escuela de Organización Industrial (EOI), at its headquarters in Madrid, a beautiful setting that gave the event a special character. The ceremony was opened by the directors of the two institutions (SPTO and EOI) who stressed the importance of industrial property protection to guarantee a return on the intellectual and economic effort invested in launching creative and innovative talent. The Undersecretary of Industry, Trade and Tourism and President of the SPTO, who highlighted the great merit of the work of inventors and the social value of research and innovation, closed the event. The event also included the participation of Ana Martínez, Spanish Scientific Investigation Council (CSIC) researcher and winner of the Best Patent Award in the previous edition, thanks to her innovation consisting of a drug for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. The winners in the six categories can be consulted here. The patent with which Arantzazu Esparza won the prize in the absolute category of Best Patent consists of a foundation that reduces the concrete content for wind turbine foundations, thus contributing to the ecological transition and sustainability.
