World Intellectual Property Day 2025: Music as a driver of innovation and creativityOn April 26, IP offices around the world will once again celebrate World Intellectual Property Day, a day dedicated to highlighting the importance of intellectual property (IP) in supporting and encouraging innovation and creativity. This year, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has chosen the theme "IP and Music: To the Rhythm of IP", inviting us to embark on a journey where music not only enriches our lives, but is deeply intertwined with intellectual and industrial property for the benefit and development of society. The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. (SPTO) joins this celebration by promoting activities and resources that illustrate to the public the importance of protecting those intangible assets related to musical creations. Music, as a form of artistic expression, benefits greatly from intellectual and industrial property. Copyrights, technological innovations in music production, market recognition and protection of musicians through trademarks and industrial designs for instruments and devices that bring music to society in a disruptive way are essential IP rights to foster a dynamic and entrepreneurial music environment. In addition, as in previous editions, WIPO has launched a video contest, aimed at young people who want to show the relationship between music and IP, as well as share their own experiences on how the protection of their works and innovations has impacted their careers. The selected videos will be presented at a global event, where the most innovative creators will be awarded. This is undoubtedly a great opportunity to recognize the fundamental role that music plays as a universal language in society and the need to protect the creations and innovations that make it possible.
