Meeting with directors of Industrial Property offices
EU IP package: conversation on the road ahead

Within the framework of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union (EU), the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. (SPTO) organized a meeting of directors of European Industrial Property Offices, with the main objective of exchanging views on the future of Industrial Property.

All member states had the opportunity to participate, explaining the situation in each of their countries. The main topic was Industrial and Artisanal Geographical Indications. The exchange was very enriching, given the differences existing between the different states and the challenges they face from their national perspectives.

Another of the topics discussed was the situation of designs. The outcome of the first trilogue, the initial phase of the procedure for processing the dossier in the European Union, was updated. The main aspects dealt with were the repair clause, fees, and the period of transposition to the member states.

In addition to this, the representative of Belgium briefly shared his country's priorities in Industrial Property dossiers, given that Belgium is going to be the next state to hold the presidency of the EU.

The last of the topics discussed at the meeting was the situation of Standard Essential Patents (SEPS). In relation to this file, the representatives of the SPTO shared all the information that had reached them in writing on the matter, especially from the private sector. This dossier has a very complex content, so progress is being cautious.
