Subsidies for the promotion of patent and utility model applications
The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. (SPTO) promotes the use of Industrial Property (IP) by Spanish companies as a tool for accessing international markets. Last April the call for grants for the promotion of patent and utility model applications was published.
These grants have two main objectives:
- To stimulate the international protection of technology through patents or utility models, and to contribute to the improvement of the competitiveness of companies that want to expand their market outside Spain.
- To promote the protection of national inventions of SMEs and individuals through patents or utility models.
The aids are:
- Subsidies for the extension of a patent or utility model application, before the national offices of third countries or regional patent offices, within the framework of national or regional patent or utility model granting procedures. Among other eligible items, the 2023 call includes application formalities, search report, examination or grant, EPO annuities and European patent validation.
- Subsidies for activities carried out within the PCT international procedure: application formalities, international search or preliminary examination.
This year, and unlike previous calls, the costs of translation into the language of the country where the patent or utility model extension is made will not be subsidized.
The deadline for submitting applications is May 25, 2023.
