The present invention relates to compositions, comprising silver nanoplatelets, wherein the silver nanoplatelets are capped by a compound of formula (XX), wherein R41 is a C4-C25alkyl group, which may be interrupted by one, or more oxygen atoms, and n is a number 1 to 10, especially 1 to 4, very especially 1, or 2, a process for its production, printing inks containing the compositions and their use in security products. The capping with the compound of formula (XX) renders the surface on the nanoparticles more hydrophobic, while maintaining colloidal stability of their dispersions in organic solvents and/or monomer compositions. This combination of properties allows for production of stable UV curable coating/printing compositions, suitable for manufacture of dichroic security elements for protection of value documents. The surface modification, described in the present invention is suitable for silver nanoplatelets of different sizes and, correspondingly, colors, and is especially useful for manufacture of solvent-free coating, or printing compositions.

The invention generally relates to a security sheet or document having one or more enhanced watermarks. In one exemplary embodiment, the inventive security sheet or document is a single-ply paper that is made up of a paper layer including one or more watermarks, and a micro-optic security device (e.g., a patch or thread) that at least partially covers an upper or face portion of the watermark(s). The overlying patch or thread increases the durability of the watermark(s), thereby allowing for the watermark(s) as well as reduced fiber density areas therein to be made larger, and further allowing for the reduced fiber density areas to be made thinner. In a preferred embodiment, the micro-optic security device projects one or more synthetic images that coordinate or link in with the watermark design(s). In a more preferred embodiment, the micro-optic security device offers a machine detectable/readable feature in the form of enhanced IR-brightness, especially when measured in transmission. As will be readily appreciated, the inventive security sheet or document offers greatly improved counterfeit-resistance.

The invention describes an arrangement of magnetic fields for aligning magnetically orientable pigments in a printing ink. The arrangement creates two different mutual orthogonal reflection patterns in an optical effect layer (OEL) resulting from the magnetic orientation with at least two superimposed magnetic fields. This easily detectable effect allows the use of such an OEL as a security feature for valuable documents such as banknotes and identity documents or security labels as well as for decorative articles. The present invention provides security documents and decorative articles containing such OELs, as well as methods for producing these OELs.
