Public consultation on the draft Royal Decree regulating geographical indications for artisanal and industrial productsThe European Union (EU) approved in 2023 a Regulation that, for the first time, grants protection to geographical indications of artisanal and industrial products by creating a new single industrial property title for the entire Union. The registration procedure of this new figure will consist of two phases: a first national phase to be carried out by each Member State of the EU and the second phase will be carried out before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The purpose of this Royal Decree is to regulate the national phase of registration of those geographical indications whose territorial scope exceeds that of an Autonomous Community, the actions of the SPTO as liaison between the competent bodies of the different Autonomous Communities and the EUIPO in the case of applications that extend to only one Autonomous Community. The term to file allegations to this project is open until January 2, 2025 and they can be sent to the following e-mail address: coordinacionjuridica@oepm.es
