A solar venetian blind system is located at a window of a room. The system comprises a venetian blind; a motor operatively connected to the venetian blind; the photovoltaic component is arranged on the shutter blind; a rechargeable battery electrically connected to the photovoltaic component and charged with the photovoltaic component; and a light source electrically connected to the rechargeable battery. The light source is arranged to illuminate light into an exterior of the room and/or the window, the light source being powered in use by the rechargeable battery. A solar venetian blind system for a plurality of windows includes a plurality of venetian blind assemblies configured to variably block light from passing through corresponding windows and one or more rechargeable batteries electrically coupled to and charged by photovoltaic components of the venetian blind assemblies.
